First of all, I never mentioned race once. I simply asked if you would give Riley Cooper the same treatment that you seem to give Jackson. And did you really say that he deserves a little time away from football to take a vacation? What the hell has he been doing since January when the Eagles were knocked out of the playoffs?

Do I need to go back and find the post where you told me that I wanted DeSean's release to be about race ? Maybe you should go and find the posts where I said that I wanted Riley back after he said the N word. In my opinion NONE of these players have to attend these OTA's. They're all voluntary, and I could give a damn about what the coach's implication is. If coaches want them to be mandatory, push for that in the next round of CBA talks, or shut the fuck up about it.

If I had something like that coming up, I always make sure I let the potential new employer know. If the employer said that's fine, and that I would be okay to still take the vacation, then I'll take the vacation. If the employer said that i had to either take the vacation or lose the job, then obviously I'm cancelling the vacation. That's not the case with DeSean. This is not a "come to OTA's or we're going to cut you" scenario. I'm pretty sure that the leaders of that team like RGIII care more about him being in training camp than missing a couple of days of OTA's

I get it, but...

It's a team environment unlike 99% of the jobs we have. Your success is dependent not only on the talent and coaching but the bye-in and camaraderie with your teammates. This one act alone could have changed a lot of people's stance on him. Instead, albeit in a small way, it furthers the stigma.

The unwritten rule about voluntary (mandatory) OTA's is just as stupid as the unwritten rule about a baseball player not being allowed to celebrat a home run as he rounds the bases. You don't want him to celebrate, don't give him a pitch that he can hit 450ft.

and still decided to give me a huge amount of guaranteed money, and then told me it was okay to go on vacation, would that be my fault or theirs ? If Jay Gruden wants him to be there, then just man up and ask him to show up. "Hey DeSean, I know you have this vacation planned, but I'd really like for you to come in and hit the ground running and get on the same page with RGIII" Are you going to go into work on a day off if you don't have to and there's no emergency ? The premise is the same. He doesn't have to be there. It's in the contract he signed and the Washingotn football franchise agreed to.

Look at you, trying to spend another man's 25 G's. If you had a vacation planned, eerything paid for, then got a new job offer, would you :

A. Try to talk to said employer and get the OK to go on vacation, or

B. Say "ah, screw it", cancel the vacation and eat the money because you're trying to showcase your sense of duty to your employer.

I'm guessing you'd go with A. Yeah, I know, you don't have the money DeSean does,etc., etc. The fact is, he's doing nothing wrong or out of bounds by not attending a VOLUNTARY minicamp.

It's not just a sense of duty. Jackson was released under the stigma that he's a me-first guy. He's not obligated to skip his vacation, and from what I've heard from 'skins' fans I know is that he told them about it before he signed, but it doesn't help his image.

So, while he's fully within his rights and personal choices to go on this vacation - it further's the perception that he's a selfish player.

Cary Williams got shit from fans for having personal things planned in the off-season last year that prevented him from making it to OTAs - and he didn't have nearly the negative public image that Jackson has right now.

The Eagles resumed OTA workouts on a soggy NovaCare field Tuesday, with All-Pro left tackle Jason Peters not in attendance.

Eagles coach Chip Kelly said he knows where Peters is and isn't concerned about his absence from the workouts, which are labeled voluntary. "I expect him to be in shortly," Kelly said.

Kelly would not give a reason for Peters' absence. He said Peters missed last week's work as well. Peters was absent Monday a week ago, the last time reporters were allowed to watch practice before today, but an Eagles spokesman said then that Peters was among a group of players delayed in traveling back from the South because of bad weather. The spokesman said the next day that all the players who weren't in practice Monday were there Tuesday. Today, the spokesman said Peters indeed was not in attendance at all last week.

The media was allowed to watch the Eagles OTA on Monday, which meant there were plenty of eyes on running back LeSean McCoy as he left the field before the end of practice.

Geoff Mosher of CSNPhilly.com reports that McCoy left the field to have his knee examined on the sideline and did not return to the field before the session came to an end. According to Mosher, McCoy did not appear to be seriously injured and Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer got the same impression when he spoke to McCoy briefly as the running back went to lunch. McLane didn’t add whether or not McCoy was going be dining in his car or not.
