Originally posted by JDuggernaut View PostYou would obviously screen the soldiers for PTSD and any other mental issues they may have, and there are already people with weapons in the school (School Resource Officers). Someone with real experience in taking down armed assailants would be more capable of stopping a massacre than a teacher who may or may not have ever fired a gun in their lives. Plus it could be a job that a veteran could have into their 50s, which could help keep some of them off the streets.--

Just happenstance of a mentally ill person, or were there other reasons?
Reporting anymore only gives you the sensationalized headlines and never digs into the rest of the story.
Today's shooting is the 74th since Newtown. That's 74 in just over 77 weeks.
On average there has been a school campus shooting nearly once a week over the past 2.5 years. How can you call that statistic either sensationalized or happenstance?--

You misunderstand my post, I am NOT calling the amount of times this has happened either happenstance or sensationalized, the media DOES sensationalize the story in that they paste the big headline out there, but they give you very little background on the story.
The happenstance part I was referring to is WHY are these deranged individuals drawn to schools?
Is it because they know they will get national coverage? or is because it is easy pickings?

Yeah it's a problem but you are stating misleading statistics
Those numbers include suicides and any gun violence on school properties, including gang violence. More realistic trend:

Of the 35 (35!) shootings at schools in 2014, 2 are suspected of being gang-related. 19 people have been killed so far in 2014 from school shootings. 18 if you don't include the suspected gang-related incidents.
That linear trend is probably going to be a little flatter next year if it gets updated.Last edited by TerpEagle; 06-10-2014, 05:15 PM.--
